Steve Arend Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Zurmmy,Give me a day and I'll write you up a basic "how to fish with cut" and I'll get it posted for you.
stuwest Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Steve-I'm also interested. I fish the west side of Michigan also and have used alewives and smelt in roller rigs, but nothing more.I've also read a bit about Menhaden oil and am considering using it this year.Stu
CaptLevi Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Cut bait is awesome! I like pulling it on a Fishertackle Guppy behind a cowbell rig for lakers, on a 3 fly rig behind a large to medium sized rotator or flasher, or clean on those days where real stealth is required to box large fish. You can purchase cutbait rigs at most retail tackle stores.
Live2fishdjs Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Ok Levi...looked at FisherTackle and I'm not seeing any "Guppy". Are you holding out?

Live2fishdjs Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Thanks Steve...not sure where that was tucked away within the website, but I'm glad you linked it. I'll be adding those to my laker arsenal in Minnesota...beats trying to thread a ciscoe:D

Blue Knight Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I was one of the first if not the first to use cut bait & a flasher on the Cdn side of Lake Ontario some years ago. Since the first time I used it I don't go out on the water unless I've got at least one down & it's usually my deepest rod. As for bait holders I use Hot Spot rollerbaiters. They may not look as pretty as the Teaser heads but you don't have to tune them to get the right roll because of the rudder. Use the #3 head for the regular cut bait strips & your in business.
