salmonquest Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I don't walleye fish that often but I'm trying to set up two rods for jigging walleye and maybe also running some harnesses. To be honest I was hoping to use the same rods for some pike fishing. I was thinking of going with mono backing and use fireline and maybe flourocarbon leaders?? I was wondering what lb test most people use. I thought 6lb would be a good compromise for both walleye and pike. Also how much should I spool up?
Priority1 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 For trolling and drifting crawler harnesses I use 10# mono. I haven't done much jigging lately but used to jig the Titt and Saginaw Rivers using 8# mono Trilene XT.. I never tried the fireline but I know some use it. The thinner diameter would make a huge difference jigging. We used mostly 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs. I could easily tell the performance difference between 8# and 10# on the jigging rods.
joelsanders Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 6lb. fireline crystal is really a good choice for jigging.
