The Loons are back

Every year shortly after ice out the Loons stop by our lake on there trip North. I was hopping to get a better shot but, he was a bit out there. They stay any where from 1 to 3 weeks. As soon as the first Jet Ski hits the lake there gone.

That's a beautiful pic nailer...

This is just another thing I miss about not living in Alaska any more. Loons and eagles thick as flies there.

I have two Canon DSLRs. A 10d and a 1D. I used the 1D and a 70-200 mm sigma lens. with a 1.4 Extender. I had to crop this pic quite a bit to get it close, so It look a bit soft.

I'm going to keep trying to get a real close one but, as soon as he sees me he heads the other way. He will dive out in 25' of water and come up 75 yards away.

I wish they would stay longer, they are beautiful foul.
