fishsniffer Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 i am putting a 15 hp 4 stroke merc.2006 on my 20ft boat for a kicker.any idea on what this thing might get for gph.i have heard 2 stroke formula @10 percent meaning [email protected][email protected] im thinking 4 strokes are more efficiant and i will be running appr.1 quarter throttle.
Priority1 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 A friends boat (21 ft FG) with a 9.9 2 stroke would use about 2-2.5 gallons for about 4 hrs of trolling. We never ran the 3 gallon tank completely out. That was at Walleye speeds. Fire up the 200 2 stroke on the same boat and a way different story. With the four stroke 15 you will get similar results.
slipknot Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I'm running a 9.9 Johnson four stroke on my 21' fiberglass and the gas consumption is amazing. Amazing in a good way! Trolling at speeds up to 3.0 in heavy chop and wind, I'm still using less than a gallon an hour. (I really am being consevative here - I think its closer to 1/2 to 3/4 gph) I wish I had switched to a kicker a looong time ago. I was using upwards of 3 gallons per hour when I was using a trolling plate on my I/O.
TheKingfisher Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I've been told by several Honda people that our 15HP Honda kicker should be running approx .2 GPH at trolling speeds on our 23 foot Islander.
Nailer Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 My 9.9 Honda uses about 1 gallon per 4-5 hours of trolling on my 19 Chrestliner.
scott w Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I have a Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke, I can troll all day on about 2- 3 gallons
