schultzs Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 We fished Standish area today for perch. Most ice is gone south of Whites Beach. Wigwam bay area still has ice BUT it is starting to deteriorate. 12-15" there. 4x4s were running around but not for long.Pine River has ice from launch to the bay but that is starting to go too. Next week it might be open.Looks like commercial guys at palmer Rd and across from Pine River launch are getting ready to go as soon as ice is gone. Channel on Pine has good stakes to mark it. [We DID catch some nice perch in 2-3' of water! ]
Priority1 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 GJ on the perch. Be careful out there. I think the Bay has claimed another fisherman. Someone went out of Pinconning and hasn't returned. Stay in the very shallow water if you do go out.
JWheeler Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/modis.cgi/modis?region=h&page=1&template=subℑ=t1.08086.1620.LakeHuron.143.250m.jpgclick on this link and you can see why ice fishing is done for the year. The last 2 days of southwest winds have killed the ice. 3 days ago the inner bay appeared to be locked up pretty good, but with that south wind I knew it was the end. Thank God....Get that ice outta here.....On another note, P1, you are correct. The bay did claim the life of another fisher this week. It is sad, and I feel for his family. The bay ice is no joke, and it can become very dangerous instantly. Let's just hope that this is it for the year
