JWheeler Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I was just perusing some other web sites and I came across an article talking about bottom paint. I am planning on slipping my boat for the whole summer. I did last summer for 1 month with no problems. What do any of you that slip your boat do to the bottom? And about how much is the expense?
Reel World Fishing Team Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Here is a product I used in the past. It did a decent job and was easy to apply. http://www.marinetex.com/PRODUCT%20PAGE_files/All%20EasyOn/EasyOn%20Bottom.htmOne thing about bottoms though. Prepare to clean before you pull it out of the water if it's been in for a while. I used a acid type cleaner called on and off and sprayed it on with a small pump type weed killer tank.
Paulywood Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 There are 2 different types of bottom paint, a sealer and anti-fouling. The sealer is a must in my opinion. Gel coat is porous and the fiberglass in your boat will absorb water and over the course of a season it can add a lot of weight to the boat. Anti-fouling is optional, it does help keep the crud off the boat but doesn't stop it. I have been told that there is a big difference between the cheaper brands and the top of the line stuff. It's best not to skimp.
