steeliebob Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I love the Browns but they died off in the EUP about 1998 and I have spent about the last 10 years trying to get the DNR to do a heavy plant of browns up here to get them going again. I guess that they are not interested. The last Brown that I caught up here was in 2005 a nice 10 pound brown that probably got lost. It is really too bad because at one time they were plentiful up here and big browns were not uncommon.
steeliefreak Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 The top two browns we got within hours of each other on a southern Lake Michigan pier back in 05. Both fish were caught on magnum sized alewife, the top one (22lbs) was caught on a float, the bottom one (15lbs) was taken fishing on the bottom. The bottom one I caught in the Betsie River just before daylight, the picture turned out crappy but this was my largest. I should have taken some measurements before releasing it, we guessed somewhere in the mid twenties. This fish was caught float fishing with a small roe bag back in 03.
Nailer Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 OMG Greg those Browns are incredible! Thank you for sharing.
Turfwrench Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Wow, those are some beautiful Browns! Love that big hooked jaw.
Just Hook'n Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Did you say RELEASED????? That must have been out of season, because any one of those would be on my wall.
Fresh spawn Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Nice fish. I love LRB's, they're my second favorite to steelhead. I've got a 28 and 23lber, and a handful in the 15-18lb range. I've gotten to the point where anything under 20 no big deal. All my big browns were from the East side of the state.
