Phishy Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Been a while since i was in the game, but i do know some ting or da udder... anyway my question... I inherited a sizable stash of older tackle, a ton of North Ports, and small flutters. With the rage of magnum spoons, are most folks running their spoons naked? we used to run flasher/ flutter combos, is this a thing of the past? Am i just daft? Chime in with any other comments, please.
Priority1 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 You can run a spoon behind a dodger or flasher but for the most part the spoon is run clean. The spoons have their own action as do most plugs. Meat rigs, flies, and squid are run behind the flashers. When thing are not happening I do something different. It's NOT against my rules to run a spoon or plug behind a dodger. I don't think I ever run spoons behind a flasher.
Nailer Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Since Flys have come on so strong, most do not run spoons behind flashers any more.In Dan Keatings book (Keating on Kings) he speaks mainly of running your spoons clean. The best way to run that flasher/spoon combo is to say put a flasher/fly on the inside rigger and a clean spoon on the out side rigger a bit above and back further.Take those magnum spoons and get some glow paint, Mike (GLF) has a great post on that.http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=470Ken.

Phishy Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 Thanx, I've been looking into finding Keating/Porter book as it has been mentioned repeatedly here.
Nailer Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 It is a very good read. see link.http://www.lakemichiganangler.com/store/Keating_on_Kings_Book.htm
spoonfed Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I have to say there is nothing wrong with running a spoon behind a flasher! Caught alot of fish on that combo this year. We fish the 333 tournys and anything goes! When the kings shut down mid day that was a HOT combo:grin:
fishdawg Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I have a bud who has done well with spoons behind Spinnys both off riggers & Divers
