GLF Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I like to know what direction the wind is going to be blowing when I go hunting. I check the marine forecast before I leave the house. I know exactly what stand I am going to sit in, before I leave the house. How many of you use the marine forecast for deer hunting?
salmonquest Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 I have been using the graphical marine forecast off of the NOAA sight to check it. Every little bit helps.
JWheeler Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 That seems like a pretty logical tactic to check the wind direction before entering the woods. I am just starting my hunting career, and I will soak up any little tid bits of information that you all want to share...Good Luck
Dv8oR Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I'm a believer in smoke. Obviously I don't smoke anything in the stand, Before I leave the house I burn something and watch the smoke!!!!!(Leaves on the ground are free and plentiful, this time of year!)Smoke can give you a better idea of variable wind. You won't be sitting in front of the weather report long enough to see it change direction, cuz you should be heading to the woods!
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I never decide where I'm going to sit until I'm about to leave for the woods. Then, I grab some leaves, lift them over my head, and drop. That dictates where I go to sit.Not overly scientific, but more of an old tradition I've used since I started hunting.
doughman Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I have floss ties to my bow, when I get it out of the case I hold Bow in postition and wind direction is instant., I also hang it in the tree, when the wind swirls or changes I know.Marv
