ironman Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Went out today with my oldest Matt and his buddy Joey. Set up in about 125 fow se of Waukegan. Stareted trolling east and did not get bit untill we hit about 180. Went out to 215 and picked up about 5 on the way out. We wound up trolling east and west between 180 and 210 going 17 for 20. Riggers were the ticket today boating most of the fish. Best setup was a 11in. chrome prochip pulling a holo hypnotist trophy fly on a rigger down 123. Boated 4 fish on this setup including a 15# king. The other riggers were pulling a 4in. prochip with a mardi gras coho candy and 00 dodgers with blue green and gold coho candy. The fishing was awesome today once we got deep, we caught all our fish in less than 2 hours.Matt
GLF Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Thanks for the report Matt! I hope you have electric riggers. That many fish on manual riggers would wear a man or two out
Catfishhoge Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Good deal on finding the fish! Seems a little odd to find them at that depth this early.
ironman Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 Catfish,The last 2 years in a row I have had to go deep to get good action. It used to be that you could limit out in water less than 60 feet when the coho were running. I imagine there are still days that you can get them in shallower water but out deep has been the ticket.Matt
ironman Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 GLF,You bet I got electrics. I gave up on manuals about 3 years ago. Not fun bringing a 12# ball up from 120 down.Matt
GLF Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Can you imagine hand cranking those up 20+ times from 120'? You would look like Popeye
