Mark Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 We got out Friday and Sunday mornings this weekend and had a ball on Platte Bay. Trolling the shallows with long line J plugs, I was 9 for 13 all kings and lost a coho at the boat. I went through 4 harnesses on one plug. Sunday was much slower with 5 biters, all kings again. The fish are somewhat silver and still very strong, but caught a couple darkies too. I think a lot ran the river on Saturday and those are pretty skittish as usual. Numbers are much better this year for the coho return.
Priority1 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 GJ Mark, It sounds like you had a great time this weekend. Wishin I was Salmon Slammin.
JWheeler Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 That sounds like great fishing, not to mention great for the fishery with a strong run up the river.
Mark Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 Those river fish are tough to get to bite. I had some luck earlier in the season on small bags and spinners but they have been getting more lock jaw everyday. You can cast 4 pound carbon at them and they see it coming 20 yards away and just slide to the side of it. Dawn and dusk bite has been about it. Interesting note, I talked to the weir workers and the fish they passed at 10 am were at the hatchery that same afternoon. That's gotta be almost 10 miles of river and lakes.....cruisin'!
