GLF Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 1. Who keeps a log book? 2. How many years have you been keeping it? 3. What are you using for a log book?
Catfishhoge Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I do not keep a log book, I guess maybe I should but I would forget to make the entries if I did!
Mrs. Sixshooter Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 We have tried it, but it's very hard to keep track of it (especially with the 2 boats, etc.) I've even made a laminated page to tally the fish on the boat.
Sixshooter Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 when the fishing is HOT and the wife is barking out orders, I don't have time to keep a log book....Especially when I'm swabing the deck to get all of Beverlys fish blood off the floor.
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I custom made my own log book with microsoft excel. It is very basic and only has 'essential' information. I print out the pages and just put them in a binder. This will be my third season using the log.

Butch Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 For big lake trolling I've kept a log on a plain pad of notebook paper for about 5 years. The info is pretty basic. However, I've kept a detailed log of my river fishing for over 15 years. I made up a standardized form which I photocopy. Date, time, location, weather, air temp, water temp, level, and clarity; fish caught, other action, expectations and reasoning, how well expectations met, (un)successful lures/patterns, and other observations(this may be a couple lines or take up the bottom half of the page and the entire back side of the page). I keep the pages in 3-ring binders. I think I've got about 6 full 3" binders.

Butch Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 So Matt, are there columns of data that represent "cocktails consumed" and "beers guzzled"? Don't be ridiculous, Ken, I don't have columns for that:rolleyes: . That data is in rows, not columns:D
Toad Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Here's a relatively simple log:http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/media/printable-fishing-log.pdf
Severus Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Don't be ridiculous, Ken, I don't have columns for that:rolleyes: .That data is in rows, not columns:D But of course. How silly of me.
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 That's a nice log sheet. The little map area is pretty cool, especially in this day of gps systems.I'll post an image of mine when I get home to my computer. I'm at work now :-(
The Dog House Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Don't have it as a picture, but can send it to someone gladly...It's been adpated to more suit our boat and the GL's....I don't leave port w/o it....I've been keeping mine since I purchased her new in 2000....It has taken a while to compile the large amount of data, but that's what I do between the end of deer season and ice out....But now, after several years a definite pattern has started to develop..That is the key! ...... IMHO....
slipknot Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 I keep a small notebook on board and mark all fish or definite "bites"... I put whether the fish was landed or not, time, color/style of lure or bait, how deep on rigger, how far line was behind rigger, if flashers were used, if on planer board, how much leadcore was out, what trolling speed... each time.I also list weather conditions and areas fished overall for the day.I figure I should keep track of info whether the fish was landed or just hit the lure, as it will still help show what the fish are biting and where they are in the long run. I just started my "anal" log this year, so it will take a couple years to be of much use...
Molbychromer Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I'm starting to keep one. I made one about six years ago in my graphics art class in high school a fishing journal i was thinking about having a pat. put on it. email me if any one has any questions about what's on or in it..
Reel_Screamer Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Here's a relatively simple log:http://www.nodakoutdoors.com/media/printable-fishing-log.pdfHey Toad thanks i like that one pretty simple:D
bags Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I do not keep a log because there are to many variables fishing lake MI. Wind direction, water temp., bate fish location, time of day, and bate fish size. Thanks bags
Storm Warning II Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Log is essential. It helps establish patterns with certain water temps and conditions and helps us record hot spots w/ GPS coordinates especially for key structural elements for future use. Been keeping one for 3 years and it pays dividends virtually every trip.
