Nailer Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 The Radio in my boat that I put in a few years back has never transmitted very far. I can listen to other that are 5-8 miles away but, it will only transmit about 1 mile. I have an eight foot antenna. Dose the antenna have to be calibrated to the radio? It doesn't make any difference if it's on local or distance.Any ideas or suggestions? The radio is an Icom.Thanks. Ken
Priority1 Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Check the antenna connection to the radio. The solder type connectors are the best. It's a lot easier for a radio to receive than to send. Icom makes one of the best radios out there.
boomerang Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 you did not by chance shorten your ANT. cable??? if you did it will affect your transmit/recive ability
LongLine Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Nailer - Did you check the radio/transmitter for impedence? They have to match or you won't get much. The transmitter literature should say what spec is required. (Also make sure that cable is all the way up inside the antenna.)
GLF Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I had a similar problem with my radio. I called Shakespear and talked with a tech. This post, has some usefull information in it.
