salmonquest Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I plan on making my first ever trip to Frankfort next week. I checked "the tackle box" site but I thought I"d fish for some more detail. Is there a preferred trolling direction? I've looked at the charts and it looks like there are some nice contours both straight out and north and south. Any preferences. It looks really interesting around north of point betsie is that a very long run? We'll be going out in the evening and I'm hoping to finally break a one person limit..
spoonfed Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 you can head south about 3 miles and thats the Herring hole. you cant miss it there should be a few boats there. youll catch fish there, point betsey i think is 8 miles north its good there or right inside there is alot of contour in the bottom im going to be there in two weeks so good luck.
caznik Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 This is my number 1 port to fish out of. I been fishing there since I been a kid to. If you like to give me a pm if you need my phone number and I can tell you where I like to fish. I really like to go north and straight out. But south at the herring hole is good to. Where you going to stay at. I stay at the Betsi river camp and there you can get alot of fishing info if you talk to some of the fishermen there. Have a great time there, I will be up there in two more weeks.rich
Mark Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Point Petsie is 4 miles and is a great place to fish. If you're fishing from straight out to the point (great area to fish), I would highly advise a north/ south trolling direction as there will be a 100 other boats doing the same thing. Both of those directions are equally good, but may change depending on the day. It's been kinda a cluster**** lately at 10pm when all the boats get back to the dock/cleaning fish at the same time... you might have to wait a bit.
salmonquest Posted August 7, 2007 Author Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks for the great info. I'm planning on going monday night so I was hoping the boat traffic might be a little less.
