wolfe99 Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Ok changing the line on my rigger rods, I think they are to heavy and messing up my presitation. What do you guys suggest to use go light (12lb) maybe. Thanks for the help Oh when you guys run NK spoons do you take the ring off the end. Im running them with a 30# ball bearing barrel swivel.
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Generally speaking, I use 20lb Berkley big game for my rigger rods. If the fish are acting ball shy, I'll run long leads behind the balls and utilize flashers and sliders. If the spoon comes with a ring, I leave it on. I generally use 30lb snaps with in-line barrel swivels.
caznik Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I like fishing with 20# maxima fishing line on my rigers. I took 2nd place with it in the West Mich. Fishing league if that tells you anything.
LongLine Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I like the Maxima too. (green) Just took the 10 Lb off & respooled with 20. Gander's not carrying the bulk Max anymore Fleas are starting to show up off Rochester so it's time to go back to heavier stuff.
LongLine Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 p.s. leave the rings on. In fact if it doesn't have a ring, put a good one on it
Priority1 Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I was running 17 Trilene, but I got a deal on some 25# Ande. The 25# is doing the job. I don't think I would go any lighter than 15#
justenough Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 1. 20# Maxima on rigger rods when running spoons2. 30# Ande on rigger rods when running meat rigs and flashers3. I put rings on all spoons4. I won't go no less then 15# in July- Aug
Rob Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I have tied lots of different lines. The best I have found is 20 lb P-Line I have not broke off yet and it don't pigtail great line.
plumkrazy Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 17 lb trielene xl on rigger 30 lb power pro on dipsy and backing on lead cores
Cstar Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 20 lb big game rigger sticks, 40lb from dipsey to flasher, 30lb floro from dipsey to spoon, 30lb power pro backing all my cores with 75 feet of 20lb spliced in, and 50 lb power pro dipseys,..
BOOTS Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 my freind Rob and i use 20# p-line on the riggers and we havent had any troubles it seems to be stronger then others we have tryed. we will be stiking with it for now on.as fair as using the o ring that is on the spoons we leave them on it dosent seem to effect the bit
GLF Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I currently am using 20lb Berkley Trilene XT low vis green. Next season I will be switching over to 17lb Berkley Trilene XT low vis green.
Dv8oR Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 This is really like a Chevy vs Ford thing...You ask 10 different people, you get 10 different answers!I like the lo vis green also and I think the last thing I strung rigger reels with was Iron Silk?!?!?!?!??!Kinda weird to look at but I catch fish on it! (has almost a plastic sheen to it, which is why I say kinda weird to look at) I know its thinner then most 20lb test should be but can't give you a quote on the actual diameter.I've only fished league events this year and been using what I normally use for dipsey rods for rigger rods (which I think also have the Iron Silk on them)Call me weird but I think I change brand names every year just to "Try something new"!!!
Redeye Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 20 lb on the riggers and 25 lb on dipsey's with 30 lb between dipsey and fly. This works for me and I have landed plenty in the 20 lb plus bracket.
Rayman96 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Berkeley, Stren, Power Pro, Spiderwire, Seagar Flourocarbon.
salmonquest Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I've been running 17# Cabelas premium flourocarbon for my leaders. I've had 3 early break off's near the knot anyone else use this or have problems?
