U.S. Coast Guard aircraft located a missing 22-foot Starcraft Monday afternoon that did not return to Manistee on schedule over the weekend.

Coast Guard Station Manistee's 47-foot motor lifeboat was underway Monday afternoon, bound for a site roughly 30 miles northwest of Manistee or 20 nautical miles west of Frankfort. A C-130 aircraft spotted the boat and reported no movement aboard the vessel, but a lifejacket and tacklebox were on the deck of the boat, according to personnel at Coast Guard Stations Ludington and Manistee.

The search was initiated for the 47-year-old Traverse City man on Sunday after he did not return from a fishing trip Saturday morning. The man, fishing alone in a 22-foot Starcraft, left Manistee’s First Street boat ramp early Saturday. His vehicle is still parked there, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard has been searching for the man and his boat since midday Sunday. Involved in the search are several helicopters and station Manistee’s 47-foot motor lifeboat.

“He missed an appointment he had with his mother and his family said it’s not like him at all to not contact or call while he’s fishing,†said Station Manistee's Executive Petty Officer Doug Bullock.

Prayers go out to his family
