Rubber Snubbers

What is the advantage of running a rubber snubber with a dipsey diver? Does it actually help hook fish better or does it just help attract the fish better? Is it even necessary?

I myself no longer use rubber snubers on my dipseys. To many fish seemed to get off. Now I just use fireline with a mono leader and works really well for me .

i use it as a shock absorber bacouse i only use 15 to 17 lb leaders

I use a snubber because i use wire on my dipsy's , and a 20# leader and i think it helps because of the light mono...Just my $.02

I use snubbers on my wire divers. Wire has zero stretch, so its nice to have something to take the shock out of it when the dipsey releases.
