caznik Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Member's I have herd from a few guys that there is going to be some nets at Manistee this year. Does anyone know how many and where are they going to be at. I will not fish Ludington because of all the nets just because I don't want my stuff get lost by a net. If it sounds like there is going to be alot of nets at Manistee, then I will not fish there and just go to Frankfort this year Labor Day. Lets try and keep this thread going so fishermen can know where all the nets will be at and how many. Thanks,Caznik
Reel_Screamer Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Hey Caz i heard an amount up to 12, and where there going to be i dont know. I dont think anybody really knows until there put out.....
Priority1 Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 You got it right Rich. I think they are supposed to have a web site with net locations on it. I sure hope they mark it well. I sure takes a lot of the relaxed fun out of fishing, when you have to be on the watch for nets. If the post coordinates, I'll try and stay a few miles away.
justenough Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Right now there is two nets north of manistee only time will tell on how many I did here up to 12 nets:angry2: John kings website has them posted
tltorrice Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 There are now 4 nets now. John Kings web site has their coordinates. I was reading Ray Schmidts web site and he states the nets are to catch white fish and incidental lake trout of legal size. All steelhead, salmon, and browns are supposed to be released.
caznik Posted May 18, 2007 Author Posted May 18, 2007 Hey guys, Thanks for all the info you are telling everyone. Just keep it coming to help everyone else out. Thanks,Caznik
justenough Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Anyone planning on fishing manistee we have 17 nets now from manistee down to the point they have removed the ones up to the north Please be careful
justenough Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 update:There was a meeting on the evening of 7/9/07. Netters, and other interested parties were there. 10 to 12 new trap nets are in the plans for Arcadia was said. It looks like its going to get worst so keep your eyes open:angry2:
caznik Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Thank you very much for the update on this. I will not go fishing at Manistee looks like anymore and will stick with Frankfort. Thanks again,Caznik
silver one Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Im with just enough. Boycott the casinos and save out great lakes.
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I'm pretty easy going with the nets and everything, but 17 is alot for one port! Is there really a need for 17??!!??My fishing trip this year will be altered to pass on Manistee. It'll also keep going past the casinos. Is there a site that explains all the laws/regulations to the nets? Fines/penalties on violations?
justenough Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 You can google chippewa ottawa resource authority Hope this helps, as far as fines and penalties they enforse there own and right now they don't have a patrol boat because it cost too much for gas.
justenough Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 The good news: The enforcement boat is back in operation they got some gas money. The bad news : There putting 4 more nets out not sure were but I would say north only time will tell.
GLF Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 The bad news : There putting 4 more nets out not sure were but I would say north only time will tell. Is there any room for 4 more nets? This has gotten out of hand!
justenough Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 As of yesterday there is no nets north of manistee but I'm sure that will change if your fishing in manistee area keep our eyes open for current net locations go to www.fishmanistee.com but please becareful they do move them.
deerslayer Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I think if they are going to put nets out thay should put lights on them so you can see them at night. There is a lot of us that like to fish after dark you would think DNR would inforce that thay put lights on them, are remove them:angry2:
Adam Bomb Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I just saw this on another site and thought id post it here.Got this off of John Kings website! Special Net Warning: Friday's blow has caused the lose of the nets in the 11s thru the 15s. The tribal fishers has lost these nets for the time being and no body knows where these lost nets are. This is a tough lesson for netters and make a bad situation into a dangerous one for all sport fishermen!
