GLF Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 It was a GREAT time on the water, except for the fan. It blew hard all day long. Good thing it was out of the East and not out of the West. We ran from Port Sheldon to Grand Haven to fish. We set up in 46' of water on a North troll. Our first fish came on a Stinger Nitro Twister(stingray size) on a half core around sunrise. While I was fighting the fish, the board dove and popped off the line. We could not find the board after we netted the fish. That was the only port side board we had. We trolled back to where we set up and started another North troll. About the same spot we caught our first fish, we hook another fish. This was on a Stinger Nitro E.T.(stingray size) on a rigger set at 45'. This ended up being our big king for the day. It hit the scales at 13.2lbs. We boxed this fish and went back around for another pass. Our next troll through the area a wire dipsey with 70' of line out, on #3 setting, blue bubble spinner with a fly. There is nothing like catching a spring king on a wire rig. You can feel every head shake of the fish. This was our third fish in the box. The wind shifted directions from East to South East. We never had another bump until we was pulling lines. I had just finished reeling in port side rigger line and taking care of the rod, and looked over at the other rigger. The rod was standing straight up and nobody was home. This was a Stinger Stingray Freakin' Veggies set at 45'
Sea-Mac Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Well we didnt do so well in close yesterday ended up 1/2 for 3. Had a rigger release in about 20 fow but no one home at about 6am south of piers on a northpoint nailer greenberry glow w/ that flasher i dont kno the name of. Then caught the 1/2 fish on 2 color w/ the rogue in about 6 fow north and heading north at about 8am, not to long after that we had something take out drag for quite aways but we lost it (could have possibly been bottom) the guy with the rod said he didnt feel any head shaking but boy was that drag screamin. Got 2 the guys we brought along real good with the FISH ON! trick. They both fell asleep at 10 am wich gave me and my brother in law enough time to quietly set up a plan to get them with the fish on. At 10:59 we loosened all the drags really loose then at 11 i gave the throttle a little bump up and he yelled FISH!!! and starts reelin in a rod then i yelled DOUBLE!!! DOUBLE!!! and start reelin in one. I never seen anyone jump up out of a dead sleep so fast in my life. Even got one guy to grab the nearest rod to him and start reelin. We were laughin and he was still "no i got one i got one". Good times. Thanks Rich and everyone involved!

The rod was standing straight up and nobody was home. This was a Stinger Stingray Freakin' Veggies set at 45' This particular rod with a Cabelas Depthmaster reel on it started the day off with a non working clicker, which I fixed last night. I'm thinking maybe if the clicker would have been working we'd a caught this fish. I had other rods/reels in the boat. I probably should have used one of these once we discovered the broke clicker..........
