Lilskatertoo Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Shakedown cruise for me today out of Saugatuck, lines in 830-11am. I normally fish Chicago but plan to start hitting Saugatuck every now and then. Ran a 300copper, 8color, and 175copper with mag spoons from around 50-90 FOW, 1-3 miles south of the harbor mouth. Finished with just 4 drum, no salmon or trout. I will be back in Saugatuck towards the end of the month -- are there usually some silver still around then? 1
FBD Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Most of this year's crop of kings probably shot the river last week. There's immature kings around but I find them tough to target as the lake cools down. However, there's plenty of steel availble just need to find them - they can be in 6' or 300'. 3
Lilskatertoo Posted September 5, 2023 Author Posted September 5, 2023 Thanks @FBD, appreciate the tips! Are you searching for temp / structure when chasing SH on this side of the pond? or is your approach the same as ours (cover lots of water with high/suspended lines and hope to get lucky!)
FBD Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 The second option. There’s no structure to speak of and the lake will be pretty much all the same temperature but they will certainly be here but not there. So troll around until you hit one then work that area and see if there’s more, then repeat. 1
