Advice please

What's the best way to clean my boots, gear etc after a fishing trip to prevent NZ mud snails getting caught there? Additionally, what's the best way to prevent zebra and Quagga mussels getting caught on my boat, I drain and unplug everything but I'm not sure if this is enough. Some websites say about cleaning ballasts, motor etc.
