Copper or weighted steel?

Im trying to repurpose a couple rods I already have.

I want to get 2 new set ups. I'm wanting to do a 50ft and a 150ft of wire.

So can I go 50ft copper with 20# mono backing on a downrigger rod and 150ft copper with 30# powerpro on my 10 color leadcore rod?

 

Or do I do weighted steel with the same set up as copper?

 

What knots are best for the weighted steel?
