Bobr Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Fished solo from 7 to 9:30 and went 4 for 8 - all kings 21, 16, 9 and 8 pounds. Everything on downriggers at 60ft in 120 to 140 FOW south of the pier. The hot spoon is below! It was a great morning! Sent from my iPad using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App 6
Mega Byte Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 That is a great catch for 2 1/2 hours and only 3 lines in the water. Well, you probably only had 2 lines in the water most of the time. Man, it seems like the rigger bite has been going crazy lately. That is great. Keep sending those fish North. I'm going out of Pentwater on Wednesday.

CJ428 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Great to see your catch--they are fat like the old days. Did you see what they were eating? Good luck

Mega Byte Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 My crew wants to fish Grand Haven tomorrow instead of Pentwater. I've never launched from there before. Is the Grand Haven Municipal launch the best site to launch from? (On another map I see the same location being called Harbor Island Boat Launch.)
FBD Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Pretty much your only option. Head straight out until you hit the river channel. The launch itself can be a bit of a trick to get to. $10 I believe.
Bobr Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Good choice based on all the success the last few days. I hope to be out tomorrow morning as well. Good Luck!Sent from my iPad using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
Bigclem620 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I usually launch out of muskegon if i want to fish gh. Muskegon launch is nicer and easier than gh plus only like a 15-20 min boat ride south almost faster by boat than by vehicle
Mega Byte Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Which launch do you use in Muskegon? (That's another port I haven't used yet.)
tgafish Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 You want to go out of the Harbor Island boat launch. That is the main launch for Grand Haven and will easily handle a 27 foot boat. As FBD said you want to go directly out to the main channel from the docks as it can get shallow up or down stream from the launch. You could certainly launch out of Snug in Muskegon which has a small fish cleaning station. But I would argue it is any easier to get to than Harbor Island. Also I've hit a couple underwater stumps heading out of Snug before I learned how to leave and come into that launch. Higher water levels may have made that a moot point though. 1
Sassy Sharon Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 If your looking for a Good Launch out of Muskegon try Grand Trunk in the Lakeside area. It's at the end of McCracken St. The Lake Express Ferry comes in and out of there, so it's nice and deep. Lots of parking 1
