littleboat Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 0 for 1, lost steelhead on board, with 4 color. He ran around with it and as I tried to bring it in a little quicker, he was able to spit the hook out of my waternelon spoon. Fish were on the otherside of the lake for me today otherwise. I fished 50-150fow, north and south of Port Sheldon zig-zaging and straight trolls. Lots of lure changes. Question though? I was using an Offshore yellow board and I have it set to release but stay where it is on the line. I like that setup. Now, the question I have. what is the best process to bring in the fish ( in this case the steelhead I lost) crank normal until you can reach the board and remove it from the line, then fight the fish or crank it quickly to the board then fight the fish? Should I have let the fish set the hook better before I do either method? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
mrhookup Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Fight the fish like the board isn't even there if you have it set to release, good tension at all times and dropping the rod tip when they jump is important with steelhead Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app 1
