Salmon hunter2
How do I tye my wire to a mono backer
FBD
I tied in a short section of braid. Back to back uni knots for braid to mono. Tie an overhand knot in the wire, run the braid through it, uni knot the braid around the wire then cinch up the overhand knot. Or if it will fit through your guides a small Spro swivel. Richard
I prefer no backing. Wire all the way to the spool. Just wrap a piece of duct tape around the first pass on the spool to stop slippage.

Legacy
Problem is guys that you want your reels filled to full capacity. If you are using Okuma 30 series reels then you will need to put a couple hundred feet of mono (or anything) as backer plus 1000' of wire to make the spools full. uni knot or an albright knot will work for that connection. Definitely want to use some mono backing. you should never see the bottom of the reel so the connection is not as important as with other set ups. I just do an overhand knot with the wire and a uni knot with the mono
