Leggitt57 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted on Michigan-Sportsman already but posting here as well. Below is a link to a video my brother and I made from our First Salmon Trip of the year. It was out of South Haven and all the footage was taken with an underwater camera. It gives you the lure’s perspective of what is really going on down there. Let me know what you guys think and if you like what you see subscribe. There will be more videos like this one to come!
gmfishon Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Looks like the spoons were spinning like crazy at times. Did you catch any fish and did you have speed at the lure monitored?
Gnarf Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Thanks for sharing. Looks like you were in the bait pretty good
Leggitt57 Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 No speed at the lure was not monitored. Yes there were times it was going fast...the moonshine was doing a figure 8 or X type pattern and the Stinger does more of a "O" shape or "0" oval-ish shape. We bagged 3 Lakers that day. Learned a lot though
gmfishon Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Ok thanks for sharing. I bet we would be surprised to see what our lures were doing at times. If they were watched all the time, with currents and such.
Leggitt57 Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 Thanks Nailer! Gmfishon - I know I was surprised. I just watched 3.5 hours of footage from my trip out of SH on Thursday. Working on editing it down to another video...and there is a big difference between say a Stinger Mag spoon and a Moonshine Mag spoon and how they "swim" at different speeds. The Moonshine likes to do an X patter or figure 8 and the Stinger does a "O" or "0" shape depending on how over fast you are going. Interesting stuff for sure!
overtime Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 The heavier spoons require more speed to do the "0" pattern, they do the figure 8 until you hit a certain speed. The lighter weight spoons do the "0" at a much slower speed.
Leggitt57 Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Thanks for the info OT I appreciate all the feedback I can get!
RONDAYVOO Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 how far was the lure from the camera ? and did you attach the camera to the ball or is it tied in line ?
Leggitt57 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 Rondayvoo - The camera is tired directly onto the main line. The lead was 6-10' off the ball and the spoon is 4-4.5' off the camera.
RONDAYVOO Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I would be afraid of the line breaking and there goes the camera
Leggitt57 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 Always a risk/chance you take but I keep it on my DR, have a lesser leader line than my mainline and tie a very careful knot. I have been very fortunate with my downrigger gear so I am comfortable with it there. It boils down to the reward being greater than the risk.
Leggitt57 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 By lesser I meant to say lesser # test leader line (from camera to spoon) than my main line that the camera attaches too.
