Got on the water at 2 headed north in 35-40 FOW. No dice. Headed back south in 30fow. hooked up on the down rigger, purple flasher white moonshine spoon, about 200yards north from the pier. then another hook up same rod, right out in front the the pier. Then trottle cable broke and ended the day. First fish was 5lb second was a 2lb either browns or steelhead. what are the tell tales between the two? Real bummer that we had a breakdown right as we were getting into the fish.

GJ on the Spring fish. Take a look at the MI fishing guide. The Browns look a lot different than steel in shape and color. I hope you made it in OK with the broken throttle.

That's a brown. Generally steelhead & browns are very easy to tell apart, but there are some browns that will look similar to a steelie.
