Fishing ugly
I have fished West bay a lot. I have lived 15 min from Elmwood launch for 10 years. I am moving over by Bellaire area. I have not fished over this side of Lake Michigan. I see there is a boat launch in Elk Rapids and Charlevoix. Anything in between that I cant find??Also where are decent places to start fishing out of either launches??I know these maybe top secret, but a little nudge would be helpful.Chris M. Nailer
Chris, Welcome to the site. I haven't fished that area much, and we don't seem to get a lot of Salmon reports from that area. I thing the Lake Trout fishing is good there though? If you go further south to Frankfort or Manistee, you will find great Salmon fishing.
Priority1
Chris, A warm to the GLF site. I see you signed up in 2013. Once in a while we will get a report from that way. I'm looking forward to some of your reports. I hope someone chimes in with some help.
steeliebob
If you want Lake Trout you will do good. You will find a few salmon throughout the summer. If I lived in that area I would try for pike and muskie until later in the summer. There are also some inland atlantic salmon to make things more interesting. Good Luck

gmfishon
as above mostly lake trout with a few salmon i dont consider west bay a great salmon fishery but it has more than most of this area. when you get into august charlevoix can be good. i would put in a lot of time and pay close attn to the graph and look for potential spots then hit the gps. go to them when wind and water temp should have fish there. i am sure a lot of undiscovered fishing spots exist but this area really does not get the pressure for a bunch of guys to chime in with go here or....... Hockey390
I trolled around east bay aimlessly a couple days for kings about 10 years ago. Managed to catch 2-20#ers by luck on down riggers I think in July. That was all the action we had. We were going to make a run to north port that weekend from Elk Rapids but fog didn't allow so we stuck around.
