GLF Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I have read several articles about using light line. Author of a book even mentioned using 8lb test. Whats the lightest line you fish the big lake with?
Steve Arend Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 12lb ANDE is the lightest that I will go. I have that on my rigger rods. I have 17 or 20 XT-Trilene for planer rods, 25lb mono, 50lb braid and 30lb wire for my diversI know years back fishing with Adjusted (Mark) we used 10lb ANDE on the riggers.Steve
The Dog House Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 East or left coast?Earlier in the season I'm lighter than I am mid to late season....Huron I never go any heavier. No need to anymore....Just my $0.02........CH- TDH
silverseeker Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Here on the north shore of LO. I often run 10 or 12 lb. mono on 101/2' glass rod's with 782 mooching reel's. Heaviest king over 30 lb. but to land everything had to come up and out of the water. What a gas. Silverseeker
Satisfaxion_Gauranteed Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I'd say part of the answer to this question is in the confidence you have with the quality of your reels. I've read many of the same articles about using light line to land large fish. Me personally, my best reels I feel completely confident using the 15lb mono I normally use. I have a couple of 'sketchy' reels I'm not as confident with I'll use 20lb mono. I also use snubbers on all of my divers with heavier leaders. I don't carry any line other than leaders heavier than 25lb. Although, to be honest, this will be only my 5th season fishing L. MI, so maybe I'm not best person to listen to..........
