gmfishon Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 well i put the boat to bed today, hence the sad part of the title. while winterizeing i was thinking about how this motor runs good but still has a shake or vibration or excess shimy however you want to put wich drives me crazy. this boat is a 72 reinell with a 165 horse straight 6 mercruiser. thinking about maybe doing some cosmetic and structual work on it this winter and if i end up pulling the motor any one know what a rebuild on this would cost or should i run it til it dies or repower ??? my plan is to get a biger boat and slip it on the biglake and only use this boat here in the bay so it would not get that much use. any thoughts ??
Rascal Trophy Fishing Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Putting the boat to bed is certainly sad, that's for sure. If it was me I'd ask firstly, do you and others going out feel safe the way she is now? Yes/don't fix. And also, when do you plan to move up and fish the big lake, and which lake? Might want to check old motor mounts too, rubber rots, they go after a long while. Good luck.
