JeffreySB1 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Just checked the water temp at the Holland buoy. Surface water temp dropped from 56 degrees at 6:30am today to 41.2 degrees at 7:30pm!
Fowlpursuit Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 It's crazy. 5 years ago it did this on 4th of July.. My brother and I headed out..got beat up pretty good by 4-6 footers but in 1 pass pier heads to tunnel park and back 25-50fow we totally boxed out on monster kings, giant steel head and a few dandy lakers.. Took a cruise to the beach tonight and it broke my heart to see the fishy water with no boats upon it. I know wat ur all thinking-y didn't I go out? It's because I no longer have my big boat and now unfortunately restricted to a 14footer.. Hopefully someone will capitalize on the fish before the big red this weekend..they'll prolly catch them all..lol
SeaCatMich Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Today's 5' seas are supposed to be down to 1-2' by tomorrow. Should have fish at the pier heads and with 1' seas the rest of the week may keep thm close too. Probably true for all of the river mouths.
Mega Byte Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Speaking of buoys, the one off Port Sheldon got hit by a boat on Saturday. If you go to the website for the webcam on the buoy it's showing an old picture, not a current one.
Just Hook'n Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Are you kidding me.....a boat hit the weather buoy...commooooon man.

If you go to the website for the webcam on the buoy it's showing an old picture, not a current one.A boat did in fact hit the buoy. The buoy is not a destination and folks shouldn't try to find it, especially in the fog! The lat/lon of the buoy is shown at the top of the page for each buoy on this website http://uglos.mtu.edu/ please mark it and stay away. At least 500 ft in all directions. I am headed over today to try to restore the buoy to full capacity! Its actually still semi-reporting despite having the top mast broke off.

Before the storm hit It was calm enough for a 14 footer to go out. There was quite a few people here in south haven trolling the shallow water. I've been on the pier the last few days having a blast. No boat needed. Yesterday, I had to move to the southern pier due to the waves. This happens every year.

Fowlpursuit Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Never ceases to amaze me how often boats run right over good numbers of fish all to go join the "fleet"
SUPERTRAMP Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Just checked the Cook Plant buoy, and its reading 66.8 o surface and 66.1 at the 8th thermistor, really kind of different! Is this accurate?
Dr Hook Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Judging by the Coastwatch satellite temps, I'd say yes.
littleboat Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Ludington has the same problem. Just got here and the water temp is 44 on top and 41 at 70' almost everywhere. I think I'll put my waiters on and cast.LBSent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app
Just Hook'n Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Someone said it flipped again - warmer.I think the cold water at the beach was a pretty fast event.
