GLF Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I have a fiberglass boat that will be slipped all season. I need to repaint the bottom before it is put in the water in the spring. Any particular brand of paint I should get or avoid? How often should the bottom need to be repainted? What sort of prep work should I do before I paint it?
Dv8oR Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 I know you could have found this too, but I've seen this guy actually do the work. He's a little, um, whats the word, weird, but does nice boat work. This should take you to the place with 3 topics (well 4 but painting a new hull isn't an option here.)1.Introduction and starting the process2.Applying ablative anti-fouling paint3.Epoxy Barrier coatsI have a friend with a 30fter slipped in Muskegon that does it every year to his and I'll have to ask him your questions and relay!http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/shows_dssb/episode/0,2046,DIY_14307_25811,00.html
shu9265 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I keep my 24' in the water all season also. I use the copper based bottom paint from Boat US. I usually power wash it at the end of the season, then again in the spring let it dry and then I roll it on.I also clean and repaint my outdrive at the same time.
captain_crabass Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 Dont mean to sound like a used car salesman, but, trust me if you ever use this you wont even think about another paint, and , NO, I dont own the company either,lolhttp://supershipbottom.com/
