jdevries Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 At the Ultimate Fishing Show I was told some people run small Slide Diver's on their down riggers. What is the advantage? How are they set-up?
SlamDunk Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I think you are referring to sliders, not slide divers.Although I suppose you could drop a slide diver in before attaching to the ball to get some added depth... but that sounds like a Pain in the ....
Trina Rose Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 You could put a slide diver below a rigger. Just gotta have a strong release. Seems like to much of a pain. They probly meant a fixed or free slider.
SeaCatMich Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I have heard of running the very small diver discs such as the Mini Dipsy Diver turner out to 1 or 2 and let out 20' or so before connecting to a downrigger release. The theory is that it gets the lure a little and also out of the turbulence of the rigger weight. Never tried it myself.
hear fishy fishy Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I run a inline weight ahead of the bait off a rigger when fishing lakers in the rocks. I can get an additional 10 to 15ft below the ball.
Chasin Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Back in the early 90s before we heard of lead core wire dispeys and mag dipseys. When fish were deep we would set standard dipseys on 3 put them out 100ft then put on a stacker release 20ft over the ball. Then send the rigger down 120-150ft. Worked well. Caught a lot of kings in Rockport in late July and August with that program. Haven't done that in years now with all the other methods but it does work.
mollyputzer Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Chasin's response is almost dead on of what I am doing with my downriggers. I use the small slide diver to gain both depth and width of my trolling pattern. You run a lead behind your small slide diver, lets say 10 pulls or arm lengths of line, you then let out the slide diver (I use 50 feet or so), hook your line to the downrigger ball (I use rubber bands), then let the ball down. By doing this, you are getting away from the ball and open up your trolling pattern at depth.A lot of people us SWR's, or lead core on their riggers. This does the same thing, but also gets wider and you can control how far below the ball you are.-Eric, Owner of Slide Diver
