niagaramusky Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Yesterday I tried to find open water on Lake Erie feeder streams from the Pa Line to Buffalo.Every stream was Iced over completely at holes and slow water, even the fast water had full Ice cover or far out from the shore edges. To much ice to break out and area and go sit in the truck for a half hour and return and fish, fish move back to key area's in the past doing this, but no open water to carry away the Ice.So we got a good site seeing trip in,if we would have brought along Ice fishing equipment instead of Steelhead gear we could have driven over to Chautauqua Lake.Tomarrow over to Burt Dam on Lake Ontario feeder steam in Burt,NY where water stays open below dam and you can break the ice out of the pool to drift out the rapids! With all the cold weather ahead the next two weeks the Steelhead are going to get an uninterupted spawning in,that is a good thing!Off to Guyana South America for Peacock Bass guiding in couple weeks.Capt. Priority1 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 All this snow, cold weather, and ice is a blessing in disguise. This should definitely help the lake levels.
niagaramusky Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 18 mile creek has open water just below the water treatment plant and a few steelies are taking small egg sacs.
