fromtheisland Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 What does everyone use for line on downrigger rods.
killerbe20 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Blood Run 20lb Tournament Mono. Designed specifically for what we do and I don't feel any if the big name companies can compare. I have had kings on wire divers get into my riggers and the Blood Run mono comes out without even a nick. Stuff is tough as nails
Dr Hook Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 20# Cortlandt Flea Flicker. Twist can be a bit of a problem at times but not as much as the fleas. Can't say it doesn't get nicked like the Blood Run but I have had a problem with breakoffs either. Though I may try the Blood Run anti-flea when I respool (thought I saw that product on their website, but not too sure, might be someone else)
SeaCatMich Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 12 and 20# test Ande Tournament is my preferred choice but has been difficult to find at reasonable prices recently. Tried the Blood Run downrigger 20# last year and it worked well but didn't get out enough to really thoroughly.

It is 30# test. http://bloodruntackle.gostorego.com/salmon-fishing-line-downrigger-leader-wire-copper-trolling/sea-flee-fishing-line-mono-spiny-water-flea-300-yards.html
LongLine Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 15 Lb P-Line cxx. Used to use Maxima but that stuff got expensive.
DIRTY DOG Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 15 lb maxima or p-line cxx, toughest stuff I've ever used!!
fishsniffer Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) 25 lb at end of year when kings were running..will throw 15 or 20 on at start of year. Edited January 21, 2014 by fishsniffer
joelsanders Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I have been running green 20# Big Game, It works great and is cheap!
Legacy Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 20# Blood Run tournament mono and 30# Blood Run Sea flee

Though I may try the Blood Run anti-flea when I respool (thought I saw that product on their website, but not too sure, might be someone else)I start the season with 6 reels filled with 20# Ande, and when the sea fleas become an issue I have 6 spooled with Courtland Flea Flicker, as noted it does twist a little but sure beats trying to get the fleas off of regular mono.
Boltman Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Ok so what's good for getting the sea fleas off? I'm going to get some soon!!
UBDSLO1 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 20lb. P-Line CXX for me. In the spring, 15lb. P-Line. I run clear color. I did try the Blood Run 20lb. rigger line this past year and was not impressed. After snapping off 2 flasher/fly combos and losing a couple of 15lb. spring kangs, I gave up on it.

That is definitely not the norm from what I have seen with the clear and purple. Myself and other charters I know have really abused the Blood Run mono with great results.
Legacy Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Ok so what's good for getting the sea fleas off? I'm going to get some soon!!Check out Blood Run See Flee. We have had great results on Lake Ontario with it. It has a slick coating to deter fleas from collecting on the line. It also has a round shape, so it wont twist up like other flea lines.http://bloodruntackle.gostorego.com/shop/premium-monofilaments/sea-flee-fishing-line-mono-spiny-water-flea-300-yards.html
Just Hook'n Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I use 20 or 25 lb Ande. I've wrapped it around wire dipseys, downrigger cables, etc etc, and it keeps fish on.
fishin'magician' Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Early for walleye and browns, 12 lb.Mid May I get heavier, running 20 on my spoon rods and 30 on my attractor rods.Bang for the buck I have found that Suffix Superior is worth at least double its sticker price. I have never broken it.
fromtheisland Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 thankyou all for the great responses. Lots to research and think about for spring.
On_The_Fly Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 20# BloodRun Tournament mono..... Love the stuff
