coralee Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Looking for options/ suggestions to have the motor (302 ford mercruiser) and outdrive removed to repair a soft mount and then reinstalled. Might also need shift cable work as it wants to hesitate or stall when accelerating from idle and it won't allow the motor to turn over if the shift handle is moved forward much from the idle position. (Can't give it gas to start) Its a 1973. So any ideas how to get this done reasonable or where to go? Any mechanics out there looking for some work in my heated barn? Best local mechanics for working on this old stuff? Thanks
prop nut Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That's not a easy job to do safely with out some equipment If the rear motor mounts are bad usually so in the drive coupler I am thinking you are opening up a can of worms and you might find a lot of other things wrong just take your time and don't get hurt the motor with manifolds should weigh rite around 1000 lbs jobs not done until the test run on the water!
tom Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 WOW! That there is some major work. Triple the hours for a first timer.
prop nut Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 if done rite you can make a old boat every bit as reliable as a brand new one possibly even better lots of things have to be looked at to see the big picture and achieve the ultimate goal quality time and fun on the water
