Fayer1 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Hope this NW. Wind cools the water and we get another run. There's a standup paddle board doings of some sort Saturday morning. It may make trolling the Holland channel a challenge .
instincter06 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Weather service is saying the wind is supposed to turn North East Friday night and be East Saturday morning. Not sure what that will do.
Just Hook'n Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 So you are saying there will be "point targets" in Holland on Sat...nice.
Gnarf Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 So you are saying there will be "point targets" in Holland on Sat...nice.and they move! good practice.
johnstjo Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 The paddle board event will not be in the channel but in the big lake for a race. Lake Mac if lake Michigan is too rough.
captjansen Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 That reminds me of the 40' sailboat that tacked through the channel while a few dozen of us tried to fish it one Saturday morning about 15 years ago. Talk about a clusto...
FishSlapper Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Sailboats.....GRRRR. Most seem to think they have right of way even when under power and no sails....Half tempted to do a Hillstrand (ala Deadliest Catch) and bring "Throwin' Eggs"...
FishSlapper Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Mind you, I realize the rules are "gray". My boat trolling is probably more maneuverable than their sailboat...and I am not a "commercial" vessel...but damn. Try to be a good person, and not come straight up my arse and interfere with my fishing...?
Rascal Trophy Fishing Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Michael, the rules are rules, period. Sailboat/blowboats, only have the ROW while under sail, not power. They constantly abuse that right, based on some weird train-of-thought interpretation of the nautical rules. Sad, but true! Good fishing in spite of them idiots.
KCOLE Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Personally I'd like to sink every sailboat I come across. Snapped an aluminum prop blade due to a sailboat on Spring Lake a couple years ago. The "captain" cut me off right when I was starting to get up on plane, had no room to turn and had to slam it in reverse to avoid running them over. I'm, (correction; HE'S) lucky I didn't tear up my outdrive. I called him everything but a white man.
rwm Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 had them come in close to watch us fight a fish and run over our planner boards and then yell at us,big pain in the ..... they are
FishSlapper Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 My all time favorite sailboat antic is where they have sail up AND motor on...If only there was a legit way to arm my craft with torpedoes...Good Fishing, Guys!
Fishrmac Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Boats that don't obey the rules, common sense, or courtesy is what those big 1 oz egg sinkers are for....

I'm, (correction; HE'S) lucky I didn't tear up my outdrive. I called him everything but a white man.I have seen poor piloting by every kind of craft out there. Had some bad experiences with sailboats as well. If you have never done it , sailing can be a lot of fun. I used to fish out of Muskegon years ago and there was a guy with about a 30 footer that trolled with 4 downriggers and boards. With the right wind he trolled for free. He motor trolled as well. Please don't knock all sailboaters.
FishSlapper Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Few and far between. No problem with someone being respectful. Extremely rare among sailboats...
baron2150 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 My favorite (when possible) if it comes to that is to pull it into neutral, cut the power and now I am adrift........now who has the ROW?? hehehe
