Just wondering what kinda spread and what fishing will be like next weekend at Ludington? Steely type setup or will the salmon be the best to focus on i have never been their this late before. Thanks:D

You will probably be better off planning on fishing for 3 year old kings and steelhead offshore as most 4 year olds have run up the river

Well, guess it depends on how many runs of salmon you count. As far as the present, yes, many salmon have already run. But not all, and the PM Lake is still full of fish right now, right up to and around the outside of the pierheads. A buddy of mine took 3 last nite, the biggest at just over 25#, the nite before, another buddy took 4, and the biggest was 27#. So, if you want a lot of fish, maybe offshore. If you want big fish, now, and inside. NOAA though may play another part in weather changing the program.

Hey Joel, the offshore forecast looks crappy for this weekend and that is most likely where the best fishing will be now. Was planning on sending you a PM with my phone if I was going to be out fishing in Ludington this weekend. If it is does not change by tomorrow, looks like I'm skipping this weekend. That is my plan every year after Labor Day, I wait till Friday, look at the forecast and go if it's decent and don't if it looks like this:

NORTH WINDS 20 TO 25 KT DIMINISHING TO 10 TO 15 KT

LATE. WAVES SUBSIDING TO 5 TO 8 FT OCCASIONALLY TO 12 FT.

SOUTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WAVES 3 TO 5 FT

OCCASIONALLY TO 8 FT.

SATURDAY NIGHT

SOUTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WAVES 4 TO 6 FT

OCCASIONALLY TO 9 FT.

WEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KT BECOMING NORTHWEST TO 30 KT.

Saw that too....not a great weekend for off shore attempts if they are even close to right.

You might get a few hours in Saturday morning, but the ride home is going to suck.

Remember, that's the big Lk. Mich. forecast. The inland lake of PM Lake, differs quite substantially, that's where the big fish are now too, running up to PM River. Quiet, don't tell everyone, lol.

Theres a lot of big kings in front of the state park as that fishery runs later. Landed several this morning over 20# surf casting and boats were getting them in 20-30' of water.

Rascal, when you say offshore, what is considered offshore? 45's 50's? It seemd that this year everyone was running "offshore" to catch fish. I usually hang out on the bank or run south to the projects.

I know most people figure the 40s and out to be offshore just my 2 cents

NOAA defines it as 5 nautical miles and beyond.
