mikefishes Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 How deep will a 300' 45# copper run towing a mag spoon? How deep will that same copper get towing a 11" paddle and meat rig? Is there a dive chart for that somewhere? Thank you.
boilnfry Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 It all depends on speed, but at 2.5 mph (speed on ground) I use 6ft down for every 30 feet of copper. So that puts it down about 60 feet.
Gnarf Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 my 300' 45lb snagged bottom in 78 foot with mag moonshine running 2.4 sogand snagged bottom in 84 foot going 2.0 soga bit shallower with a big paddle.
hourlate Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Mike, I think you'll find no consensus here on how deep it will actually run. There are SOOO many variables...SOG, current direction and troll direction, strength of current, etc just to name a few. You can see from Joe's post that he's had it hit at various depths depending on speed. However, if you were running 2.0 SOG directly into a strong current, it might not even run 65 feet down. The key is consistency. If it is taking fish, keep it out. We adjust our other spread (say downriggers) within the range we believe it may be running until they start hitting fish (using our sonar in conjunction helps a ton as well).
Nailer Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Take a look at these actual dive charts from Blood Run.
