fish's daddy Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 My dad, brother in law and I are heading to the west side for a fri night/ sat morning fish. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go. It appears ludington, holland or port Sheldon? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Blackhawk Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 North west blow today will change it up a bit. Keep an eye on the Holland buoy with the temp. string. All of these ports are going to be very good I predict.
ekbelt Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Come to Holland and check out the Steelheaders tournament this weekend. Even if you don't sign up you can check out the weigh on Saturday at 1:30pm at the DNR launch on the north side of Lake Mac. http://www.hollandsteelheaders.org
Rascal Trophy Fishing Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Just fyi Chuck, this past weekend the Ludington Offshore Tourney weighed in over 70 kings over 20 lbs., 29.9# was the biggest, and that doesn't include the non-tourney people. Look for my pm.
Nailer Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Welcome to the site Chuck. It was blowing really hard out of the NW today. If I was to choose, I would pick a more southern port.Where are you coming from?
Just Hook'n Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Should be an interesting weekend. Check out the buoy information.... lake turned big time already...http://uglos.mtu.edu/show_therm_plot_all.php?station=45029&meas=String&uom=E&time_diff=0&time_label=GMT&therms=1,8

Far Beyond Driven Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Not ug. More like game on, if I could stop working 12's. Nothing like taking kings and steel in 6' of water on size 3 j's off yellow birds in July...
Wild@ Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Ugh... if your planning on swimming......yaaaaeeee.....if uwanna catch fish full of mud.
Great Gazoo Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Not ug. More like game on, if I could stop working 12's. Nothing like taking kings and steel in 6' of water on size 3 j's off yellow birds in July... Sounds like a good plan. I was getting excited about the water finally setting up and the good reports coming in though. You're definitely more optimistic than me about the 20 degree temp change over night (in July). Let's hope you're right!
Line Dancin Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 only thing that has me concerned about this weekend is this forecast for the Holland area:REST OF TODAY NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 20 KT BECOMING NORTH AND DIMINISHING TO 10 TO 15 KT THIS AFTERNOON. Rascal Trophy Fishing Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Late July and August are the banner weeks for Ludington, year after year. DNR stats have proven this for about 25 years now. These are typically the 30#+ King weeks we wait for, and dream of.
Far Beyond Driven Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Not optimism, but a proven record of success. If you pull the Holland web cam and see a 14' sea nymph in there all alone after 7am, that's all you need to know. May 18 this year 15/22 with 136# of fish only boat in there. Last wmfl fished the plume all by myself and pulled the heaviest cooler in the tournie picking up brown trout everyone else ran over. First week in august two years ago limit of steel bouncing yellowbirds off the swim buoys at oval beach in 5' of water. I'll go no deeper than needed: in 2010 I took over 200 fish and the average depth was 18' of water.
Far Beyond Driven Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Oh, for every beat up trip, there's plenty of times the fish don't get the memo. I've had ice water, clouds of bait, and nothing to show.....
