Nailer Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) what is the multiplier for cca v motor size? (2) 650 cca marine cranking batteries are plenty for my 305 gm merc engine aren't they? Edited May 23, 2013 by Nailer
SeaCatMich Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I would think it is enough. My Avalanche with a 5.3L (327 CI) has a minimum suggested of 610 CCA with a 730 CCA as the alternate if running lots of "stuff".
Gnarf Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 650 CCA is about 800 cranking amps at normal temperatures which should be enough.
HONDAM Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 The min recommended for most V8 Mercruisers is 550cca and 700mca so your good. The older carbureted mechanical fuel pump models require even less but is you have at least what I mentioned you are covered.
Nailer Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 I was trying to remember back to an auto mechanics class we took up at Mi Tec, and I thought the instructor said 2 X the engin ci. But that was 33 years ago, and my head has had too many beers poured in it to remember back that far.The previous owner had 2-775 cca in it, so it made me wonder. Thanks guys.
NO MO BEGGEN Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 hey ken my mercruiser repair book recommends 1 amp per cu. in for 8 cylinders minimum. a 5.0 or 5.7L should have 450 cca minimum
