Luella Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Has anyone changed drags in there reels. I have some 47h reels id like to get new drags for. what kind of drags would be best.
Super Yooper Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I just replaced some parts on a 47H and did a drag upgrade on a daiwa great lakes 47LC too. I got my parts from Tuna Tom's and got them quickly. If the 47H is like the great lakes 47 it doesn't take long and its pretty straight forward. There are also reel schematics on his website for the 47H if you have questions on how to get things apart or put them back together.
fishsniffer Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 done it many times..get the drags from tuna..very easy installation..youll wonder why you never did them before
mriversinco Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Super easy to do. It'll take you maybe 20 minutes for the first one but once you get the hang of it you will wonder why you waited so long. Here's a good link for a reel rebuild. It's the 50h so the reel is a little bigger but schematically the same. That site is a great place to look if you're ever interested in the insides of reels. They are salt water so they usually grease their drag washers and I think in freshwater you don't need the grease.http://alantani.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=46pnco9cnjrcffit85m6j5gbl4&topic=18.0
its an addiction Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I did 8 Okuma's last winter. It's not very difficult, just takes some time.
Hotdog71 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Another vote for Tuna Toms. The guys are really good if you run into a problem and their products are great.
AllenW Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I have got all my drag washers from Dawn at Smooth Drag.http://www.smoothdrag.com/I also use a bit of the Cal's grease on them.Al
