Reel Screwd Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Hi guys i will need to purchase a set of rod trees for the new boat, I'm looking at the big jon TR4,s or the traxstech 4 rod trees do any of you have a set of the big jon's and how do you like them?
cliftp Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I've been drooling over the Trax Techs for a few years now. Struggling with the price though. A friend has the Big Jon's on his 17 Aluma Craft and I'm quite impressed with the line separation while trolling. I like the idea of mounting them into tracks vs individual Big Jon mounting blocks. My boat is all Bert's so far so I will probably go with the Bert's trees for consistency when I buy, but wonder about the lack of adjustment on the Bert's. Have fun buying.Paul C.

Have fun buying.I hear ya on the price.. about $150 diff between the two. I like the fact that the big jons can be removed easily. the spot i will need to mount them i may have to remove for docking. I know the traxstech can be removed also or rotated but looks like id have to leave off the end cap to remove
SUPERTRAMP Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The Big Jons are really nice and u can adjust the angles easily and easy fold up holders for storage when you put the boat on the trailer. I run Great Lakes trees and they work well but are not as adjustable as the Big Jons and are not as user friendly but for the $400.00 price difference I can live with it.
mriversinco Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I also like the looks of the fish on trees. Not sure they're as adjustable as the trax, or jons but they look pretty good for the price.
CITM Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I have had the Big Jon TR4's for a few years and am very happy with them. I can't think of a thing I would change about them.
Reel Screwd Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 wow how much are the great lakes? i do like and want the adjustment on the trees..i found the TR4,s new for $239 ea which is the cheapest ive seen them
2UNREEL Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I have the great lakes planers and like them alot. The price can't hardly be beat unless you make them yourself. You can get the track option or a bolt on base.
Reel Screwd Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 well i may have changed the plans, im looking at the fishon rocket launcher now, so im off to the boat to take some measurements
Reel Screwd Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 Thanks for all the help guys i will be going with the fishon rocket launcher and just add additional holders when i can afford to pick them up here and there this fishing stuff is exp:(
N II Deep Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I was looking at the Fishon rocket launcher as well, it looks nice and price was very good.I They must get the material get dirt cheap.
Flat Rate Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 The Big Jon trees have the option of a base that slides right in the Trastec or Burts track. Just have to ask and they will usually swap the standard base for the track base.
