Special K Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Hey guys just wanted your opinion on the Yeck torpedo downrigger weights. Anybody use em? Like em? Looking at adding a fish hawk/depth raider this winter and thought a torpedo weight would be better for reducing blowback on the probe. I use the traditional cannonballs now. I was checking out the Yecks and saw the spot to attatch the rigger cable is in the nose instead of the top, is there a advantage to that? Any and all opinions welcome!
SeaCatMich Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I used something similar a long time ago. The heaviest that Yeck makes in that style is 10#. If your down rigger can handle something heavier, I'd go that way. At the very least I go 2# heavier on my probe rigger than the others. This keeps the blow-back about the same as the others.
sherman51 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 i use the 13 lb pancake weights. very little blow back. dont know how they would work for you. but they would help the blow back.sherman
Dave Mull Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 I'm a fan of the actual Torpedo weights from Torpedo. I think the heaviest is 14 pounds? Very hydrodynamic. Yeck makes great stuff, though, and I'm just unfamiliar with that weight.
Fsnrod Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 If you look close at that weight it looks like theres a hole in the fin to attach your release to I think that weight hangs down with the fin to keep it from spinning. I have seen other weights like that and thats the way they worked.
fishy1 Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 I've uused the torpedo downrigger weight and found it has just as much blowback as a 12 pound cannonball style, not worth the money. The torpedo weights that you attach to you lines though work great.
ChampionShip Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I'm a huge fan of Salty Balls in the 12# variety if memory serves. Not sure if Salty is on here but I'd look him up for sure. Blowback is almost nil compared to anything else we've used and they track very nicely.
RedRider Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I'll second the Salty ball recommendation, Salty ball weights are awesome.. I know he can be found on another site. pm me for more info.
