I'm looking for some input to help my undecided self out. I have five penn 209's that I want to spool up for next season. I'm tired of looking at them on the bench. At one point I had three of them set up with a half core, 3 color and 2 color, but that line is OLD now. So whats your suggestion, respool all short cores, spool something different? I've thought about running them on my rigger rods again, but it seems everyone loves to watch the line counters as they bring the fish in. Thoughts?

10 lb mono and reef runners :)....

they make great walleye reels, i also have run up to 3 colors on them for SWR with 17lb mono ...a little stealth

I used them for short cores and mono rods to run on riggers or flatlines. At one time I did have a 10 color squeezed on one but lets just say the retrieve rate makes that not a fun rod :)

Riggers and short cores. I had a 10 color on one late season and it caught alot of fish but was not that fun to reel in to reset and didn't spool out on its own when deploying.

I don't mind reeling a fish in on it.

My thought is if they're watching the counters then they're missing the show altogether, penns are fine for riggers

I agree have used them often for rigger rods. The only time i really use a counter is for my dipsy rods. The 209 is a great all round reel.

Thanks for the ideas guys, like I had figured the best uses would be the short cores and riggers. I think i'll be giving them more time in the rigger holders next season, old school like my dad ran them, and run my short cores off my current LC rigger reels.
