jimcr Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Ok we all have the go to lures , and I am sure each one of us has different one we go to. How did you come to have the specific lures as go to lures. Did someone clue you in on a secrete ? did your buddy tell you to. Did you just like the lure? Did it just look like it would catch fish.Tell us what that lure is and why.Mine was a big lake lure this year, Double orange crush. Only one trip this year did it not catch me a fish. Why I wanted to try UV lures this year , and it worked out that it was the first one I tried this spring.
mattmishler Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 When i call people i want to know TWO things, how much water and how far down there coming. Its a new quiz for me everyday to figure it out. Being on the water everyday helps. If something is smoking hot for someone then ill change it up, being on active fish and right dept is more important then light green vs dark green to me.
1mainiac Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 This year it has been the Moonshine RV series of spoons for us. Last year it was Silver Streak UV spoons which we still run but the new Moonshines have caught more fish so far.
Rodm Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Go too, for me is a combination of what's worked in the past, what people ( I trust ) say is hot. If I'm marking fish and the bite is slow, I'll leave the proven producers in the water. I'll choose a few rods and change things up, hoping to find a hot combo. The moonshine rv stuff was great. Long copper rigs 400+ saved the day more than a few times. Always give last trips stud some prime time the next outing.
Dr Hook Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 UV Spindoctor with Big Weenie Last Brunch. Just seemed right to me when I was at the tackle shop one day and the clerk seemed intrigued by the combination as well. Ran it on braid dipsey and caught fish everytime out.
tom Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Moonshine Flounder Pounder. 3 years in a row. Last year bloody broken nose close second.
Yankee Troller Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 This year was the Black screwballHaven't run that one in a while....

Why I wanted to try UV lures this year , and it worked out that it was the first one I tried this spring.Often as I read reports I will look up spoons if I am unfamiliar with them, the ones I like I will buy and give them some time in the water. Occasionally I will pick up a spoon that someone tells me about, or one I just felt like trying. For flies I tend to pick my own. My hottest spoon of the year was probably a Flounder Pounder but we didn't have anything that really seamed to stand out. My best fly for the year was a light green and glow from ITO behind a white pearl glow SD. Also did well with a blue-green ITO.

When you are on fish speed and depth are key. The 70's porn moonshine was a hot spoon for us.

Hazzard Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 No its vertical striped Brown, glow white and a orange reddish color. All of the colors look like something Dirk Diggler wore in Boogie nights.

My go tos are spin doctor/flys, mainly white with UV and white blue bubble. I feel if I'm on a rice fish, I'm going to get them going eventually with my spread by adjusting boat angle, speed etc. usually guys go to presentations come from personal confidence. I have a hard te taking off something I know catches fish for me just because someone else said they caught some fish on something else
buster107 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 My go to spoons in the morning is flounder pounder, and double trouble. My go to flies with a big white padding is Poofster, and artic blast. My goto meat rig was no fish nick uv. My goto plug is either silver with red head,or green splattered back.
Line Dancin Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I have a few go to's flounder poundermongolian beefpro king green glogreen dolphinlemon iceyellow tailThese lures put fish in the boat anytime of day for me.
kingfish123 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 For me the one lure that went out every trip this year was the big white paddle with a hypnotist fly on the deep rigger.
pentwater bite me Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 best bite was a black and pearl big paddel with a black and whatever horsefly in july and augest.great for deep big fish
monarkbro Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Gotta say that the moonshine lures are best year after year. When we first started we asked our good friend to give us 6 "must have" lures and went from there. This year moonshine razor burn and crab face were the two hottest. I would say those two lures took a third of our fish. Dint matter where, rigger, copper, dipsy, went strong all day too.
JWheeler Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 For me the one lure that went out every trip this year was the big white paddle with a hypnotist fly on the deep rigger.Fish were deep, big white paddle and KRW's Riverside fly. 1st night of a 5 day trip it took 8 out of 16 bites. Then it continued to take hits the rest of the week.We all have our favorites.Green jeans usually takes a few rips 1st thing in the morning for me.Happy meal is consistent.Moo Moo meat rigspinnie with green flyCarmel DolphinFL green glow froggyAcie high glow plugsand since I started using them last year Scarpace plugs have to go somewhere in the starting line up. The list goes on and on and on and on.......it's good to have options. As much as the fishing changes it's crucial to be changing lures
