Gnarf Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Brown Trout seeforellen strain. I had the exact same thing happen to me and i initially thought it was an atlantic aswell. Thats the one i caught
danthebuilder Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 This is from the DNR book. Seems like no help. If you search what joe wrote in google images "Brown Trout seeforellen strain.". There are people holding up that same fish. I'm going to say joe wins.
Turfwrench Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 This may help. I put this together a couple years ago, it seemed a lot of guys that fish the lower end of Lk Huron caught browns and were calling them atlantics. I put the red lines in on the jaw to show the difference. The top and bottom fish (atlantic) are the same fish with the middle fish a brown.
sherman51 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Brown Troutseeforellen strain. I had the exact same thing happen to me and i initially thought it was an atlantic aswell. Thats the one i caught i sure am glad im not a fish expert, as your fish looks just like a atlantic to me. the mouth extends to the back of the eye and it has the x,s on the upper part of the body. but like i said i dont know the difference from one fish to another. im just going by the picture of both fish. no offence given. sherman
SUPERTRAMP Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Brown Troutseeforellen strain. I had the exact same thing happen to me and i initially thought it was an atlantic aswell. Thats the one i caught That is just what it is. Brown Trout Seeforellen strain.
Cork Dust Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Remember, Atlantics are a salmon, Salmo salar-deep forked caudal fins, spots are more sporadic and weaker than a brown trout's, sharper angle to the head and jaw, lending a more torpedo-like lateral appearance. You can go the vomer tooth count route, but it is not very easy to do when the fish is long dead.
monarkbro Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 That sure looks like an Atlantic Salmon to me!!
fishhound Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Well thanks to all that replied. Im gona say its a brown trout.
