salmonslammer Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 It was fun not catching the fish. After going 4 for 4 in 50 to 85 fow we went 0 for 7 on steelhead in front of the piers. We set up at 6:00 in 50 fow two miles south of the piers and went on a northwest troll. At 54 fow we took a steelhead on a dreamweaver lemon ice on full lead. At 74 fow we took another steelhead on a red/silver pro king on a dipsy ioo back set on 3. At 75fow we took a laker on a tin can with a green/white fly bouncing the bottom. At 83 fow we took a king on the same full lead. Then we ran back in to the pier heads. Our 7 jumping steelhead which are still out there came in 17 to 24 fow on red thin fins, pro king orange crush, stinger caramel dolphin, and pro king bumblebee. The water temp inside was 59 0n top and 54 15 down. I may make a few passes in there in the morning but I think it will be a zoo in there. I had the mud line all to myself this morning. Even though we didn't get any of them it was fun watching the acrobatics!!!
SUPERTRAMP Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Larry keep the reports coming, I would rather have the steelies on than put them in the boat any way what a hoot.
EdB Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 You got to fight and didn't have to clean em so that's not to bad sometimes.
dpkuiper Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Fantastic and good to hear the steelies are in. I am looking for some help...will this hot weather push them out or keep them near until a strong east wind or what? Thanks.

Thanks. The steelhead will probably move out a little but will be staging to run the river shortly. Skamania are really a hoot and u can get steel most of the time out on the skum line in deep water. Look for the temp break on the surface and fish the inside edge of the scum line. Fast moving spoons in the top 30 feet can be really a lot of fun I usually run 2 to 6 colors of lead and spoons any kind as long as it has orange or a combination of orange on it. DOC has been good in past years and the Tequila sunrise by Fuzzy Bear has been good too. Speed should be 3mph plus.
