needhelp Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Will be in manistee area this weekend. We have down riggers and dipsys with an 18' boat. Limited electronics with no temp sensor or speed other than gps and depth finder. curious if we should try acadia or Manistee. If you had my set up where would you start depth wise and how deep. We are looking for someone to point us in the right direction. Like I said we are rookies and have fished before but if we catch 2 or 3 fish we are happy if we dont get skunked.Appreciate any help or comments
Paulywood Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Welcome to GLF! Matt Mishler is a first mate on a boat out of Manistee and he usually posts some good reports for that area. There are a few other members who fish there also, hopefully they will chime in. You might also want to check the Ludington reports as both ports fish the point. Good luck out there.
DarkBlue Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Keith, The fish seem to be scattered now due to the cold front that moved in a few days ago. I was out last night from Onekama and had to work to get the eight or nine bites I got. Most came on riggers 80 feet or more down, but I picked up a couple steelies in the high water. Started in 180 fow, and ended up in 120 fow. Blue and green dolphin spoons seemed to be the best. Had one big rip on a flasher/fly on a low dipsy diver, but it came unbuttoned.I think Manistee or Arcadia will work for you, but if it was me I would go Manistee because you are closer to ludington and can head that way if it heats up to the south.Shoot me a PM if you need anything else. And good luck.Chris
