fisherman5 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 We caught a walleye monday with clumps of groath? Very unusual and disturbing???????????????????????????? At the spark plug...........Any info on this????????????
Twill23 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Lots of inland fish have those growths. REALLY common in pike. They're old scars that didn't heal correctly. Cut that piece of meat out, and the rest is OK.
Priority1 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Those growths have been quite common for years. I first saw them back in the 80s. It has nothing to do with injuries. The warts are of no concern to fishermen who consume the fish. Skin the fish and the growths are gone. A link from DNR.http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10364_52259_10950-26964--,00.html
pulpfishin Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Yes what Frank said. We have been catching them for years with warts and it does not affect the meat at all, or the fish for that matter. Nothing to be concerned with.
fishinmachine2 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Yup, its quite common but it does ad weight to a fish in a tournament...LOL!!
